MIT's new 2026–27 essays and short responses, what MIT looks for, and how to answer each without sounding like a résumé.
MIT uses its own application and asks four essays of roughly 100–200 words (your field of study, a time you did something different than expected, the problems you want to tackle, and an unexpected challenge) plus four short responses of 40–50 words: what you do for fun, someone you admire, a topic you could talk about for hours, and whether you're a generalist or a specialist.
